Project Name

Suzhou Modern Container Terminal Co., Ltd. Tire-Gantry Crane Fully Automated Retrofit Project

Difficulties in renovation

Four-rope Spreader, and does not have anti-sway function

Project Highlights

1. Overcoming the challenge of automating four-rope, anti-sway Spreader gantry cranes

HIRI FUTURE has taken the lead in overcoming a long-standing industry challenge in the smart port sector—the anti-sway function of spreaders is the foundation for achieving automation. Among them, automated retrofitting of rubber-tired gantry cranes equipped with eight-rope spreaders and featuring anti-sway functionality poses the lowest difficulty, while automated retrofitting of rubber-tired gantry cranes equipped with four-rope spreaders and lacking anti-sway functionality presents the highest difficulty.

2. Maintain industry leadership with outstanding anti-rolling performance.
By employing a two-stage intelligent control approach—open-loop and closed-loop—ensure that the Spreader moves from its current position to the target position, with its swing amplitude within one oscillation cycle not exceeding ±5 cm.

3. Achieve a dynamic grab-and-place box effect with anthropomorphic manipulation.
During the process of picking up and placing containers, the Spreader uses AI machine learning to simulate human operations, comprehensively analyzing the spreader's longitudinal swing amplitude, time cycle, and landing position to achieve a dynamic container-handling effect that mimics human operation, significantly improving the efficiency of automated container handling.

4. The automation efficiency metric outperforms the average level of manual operations.
Through repeated testing under various operating conditions, with multiple container types and different chassis configurations over an extended period, the average time from when the large vehicle reaches the work position to when the container is successfully placed onto the chassis or in the yard is 135 seconds. The efficiency metric exceeds 26 moves per hour, surpassing the average level achieved by manual operations.
