Efficiency: 30 moves per hour! HIRI FUTURE helps Guangxi Port achieve a new leap in automation!
HIRI FUTURE is helping several ultra-large-span RMGs at Guangxi Port achieve full automation. Even after the equipment was handed over and put into operation, HIRI FUTURE didn't slow down its pace. In just three months of trial operation, the ultra-large-span RMGs have achieved a container-handling efficiency of 30 moves per hour when performing overturning operations with BE containers. Yang Zhengming, who was in charge of this project, will now share his story with us.
If the road doesn't work, just take a turn.
He said: If one path doesn't work, try another; if one approach isn't effective, give the next one a shot. Solve problems with a flexible and adaptable mindset.
To overcome the challenges posed by ultra-large spans, improper equipment alignment, and uneven track surfaces, the HIRI FUTURE technical team kept pushing forward with persistent research. Just for the process of flipping over the Beibei and path planning alone, they accumulated nearly 1,000 documents from test data and video segment analyses. Yet, "Try one more time, try it again and again" has always been the team's guiding principle, and in the end, they successfully mastered this "bottleneck" technology.
The HIRI FUTURE team is conducting renovations and debugging at the project site.
Unyielding and resolute, forging ahead with courage and determination.
He said: A steadfast and unwavering belief will always shine like a ray of dawn, illuminating the path ahead and revealing beautiful vistas.
The old Changqiao port was not equipped with a mechanical anti-rolling device. Even if a mechanical anti-rolling device were retrofitted later, its effectiveness would be compromised due to issues such as inaccurate installation positions, difficulty in precise alignment, and mechanical interference. Within half a month, HIRI’s mechanical design team and electrical design team worked around the clock, designing and verifying a fully proprietary, lightweight mechanical anti-rolling system. This lightweight mechanical anti-rolling system can be integrated with HIRI’s AI algorithm-based electronic anti-rolling system, creating the “HIRI AI Anti-Rolling System”—a highly reliable and durable solution tailored for the era of automated and intelligent port operations. With the support of the integrated “electronic anti-rolling + mechanical anti-rolling” technology, even when the trolley and carriage are moving at full speed, smooth and effortless operation is achieved, providing strong support for a significant boost in automation efficiency.
To complete the project and deliver it to the owner as soon as possible, the team worked overtime, sacrificing sleep and food.
He said: Automated transformation has never been easy to achieve, and improving operational efficiency is even more challenging. But precisely because it’s difficult, it becomes all the more meaningful and rewarding.
In March 2024, the HIRI FUTURE team moved into the terminal to begin the renovation. In just about 40 days, they completed the automation upgrade of multiple RMGs and entered the commissioning phase. After handing over the equipment and starting operations at the end of May, the team didn't slow down; instead, they continued pursuing even higher and faster operational efficiency. In just three months of trial operation, the team achieved an impressive handling efficiency of 30 moves per hour for ultra-large-span RMGs performing container overturning operations.
The story of Yang Zhengming and his team overcoming difficulties is a microcosm of the entire HIRI FUTURE team. On the path to supporting the intelligent transformation and upgrading of ports, HIRI FUTURE has consistently adhered to R&D-driven innovation, continuously leveraging technological advancements to successfully deploy over 3,000 sets of intelligent products at more than 70 port terminals both domestically and internationally, contributing their wisdom and efforts to the construction and development of smart ports.
